"Michael has once again delivered a premium offering with his Charleston Historic District Illustrated Map. Done in the same style as his other map series of Savannah, Georgia, this map packs a huge amount of well-designed and well-researched information into a compact space. Rather than overwhelm map users by illustrating every building, he has judiciously picked the most relevant buildings accompanied by engaging text snippets that describe their history and other interesting facts. The big attraction for me is the detailed illustration that leads you from building to building, encouraging you to read the descriptions and get a feel for the cultural and historical richness of the area. But this map isn't just about historical fact. By switching your perspective slightly, new layers of practical information pop up such as neighborhoods, shopping areas, tourist destinations, hotels, public parking, shuttle routes and stops, and public washrooms. This makes it a legitimate contender for a one-size-fits-all map for visitors, and although it doesn't make a point of depicting shops or eateries, these areas of concentration are well marked for those so inclined. This map is not for you if are in the market for a road map to get you from A to B. Rather it is a map for the discerning visitor who is interested in the background and history of the area and wants an interesting keepsake of their travels to Charleston. All in all, this is another fine effort from Michael, and this map and its wealth of information is well worth the cost of a few cups of coffee."
